An airdrop is when a project distributes free tokens to users, often to reward early activity or decentralize ownership. They generate excitement — and a lot of scams.

Legitimate airdrops

Real airdrops usually reward people who already used a protocol, and claiming them should never require you to send funds or share your seed phrase. The value of airdropped tokens is highly variable and often falls quickly after distribution.

The scam version

“Airdrop” is also a favorite scam hook: fake claim sites that drain wallets, or tokens that appear in your wallet and lure you to a malicious site. Never connect your wallet to an unknown claim page, and never approve transactions you do not understand. See our Scam Alerts.
