This page explains how we produce The CBDC Watch and how our live data works.
The CBDC Watch
The CBDC Watch is an editorial tracker, not a live feed. For each central bank digital currency we record the issuer, the current stage (research, pilot, or live), a plain-English explanation of how it works and how it differs from crypto and stablecoins, and the market implications. Each entry is sourced from official central-bank publications and is dated with a “last reviewed” note. Status changes over time; we point readers to the primary source to verify the current position, and we frame everything as reporting rather than a how-to.
Live prices and FX
Live crypto prices are proxied server-side from a keyless market-data provider; foreign-exchange rates used to show prices in your currency come from a keyless public FX source; sentiment (the Fear & Greed Index) comes from alternative.me. We cache values briefly and, if a provider is unavailable, we show the last good value with a timestamp rather than a fabricated number. We never display placeholder or zeroed data as if it were live.
Multi-currency
Prices default to US dollars and can be shown in your selected currency using live FX rates. Your choice is remembered in your browser. FX conversion is an approximation for context, not a quoted rate for any transaction.
